Losing Weight Naturally

April 27, 2008

Natural weight loss means lowering your daily calorific intake while increasing the amount of calories you burn through exercise; but how many people take notice of this? If it were that simple, which it should be, most slimming companies would be out of business; a third of overweight Americans and millions globally, would disagree with this advice. The conflicting aspect is that a large percentage of overweight people are desperately trying to lose those pounds whether it is because they are tired of the looks they receive or for health reasons.

The strange thing is though that it is so much easier to stay trim than it is to lose weight because as soon as you start putting on weight, many things become more difficult. Subconsciously we all know that if we do not maintain a healthy food program for ourselves, we will start to add extra pounds.

Apparently even if you have lost weight with a calorie controlled diet, it doesn’t take long if you come off it to revert to your old ways and you can start watching the pounds go back on again. Natural weight loss is about losing weight for good and requires switching to healthy eating habits and implementing lifestyle changes to stay healthy.

Most health experts contend that the significance of excess weight is more than cosmetic as it takes a huge toll on a person’s physical health. If you think about it, losing excess weight by natural methods is the most acceptable way to get rid of those extra pounds but too many people want a ‘quick fix’ system.

Stick to a healthy diet that contains the correct food groups with a balanced amount from each if you want your natural weight loss program to be successful. If you were looking at a meal then this would be a baked potato (carbohydrate), the vegetables would be the fiber and a little meat, is the protein.

Dietitians also say that the body has a capacity to retain dietary fat more than calories for regular foods so weight gain is more likely. Don’t fall into the fat-free trap where manufacturers keep coming out with low-fat or fat-free versions of their best-selling foods despite the fact that Americans are getting fatter anyway.

The misconception is if you are eating something fat-free then you won’t be adding extra fat to your body but all food contains calories, just not always in the form of fat. If you really want to lose weight through a program you will need to dump the fat free products and eat small healthy snacks that are high in nutrition.

The subject of when to eat and how often can be contentious but the latest thoughts on the subject suggest that keeping to regular meal times and eating small nutritious snacks between meals may be the answer. This is a subject that will continue to be debated for some time but natural weight loss is possible and should not be looked upon as a lost cause.
